Le fabuleux destin d'une enseignante
"Le fabuleux destin d'une enseignante" is a French edublog by Élise Goulet Pedersen. She is a grade 7 and 8 French and Science teacher in a French language school in Ottawa, Ontario.
She graduated from the University of Ottawa with a degree in Communication and Psychology and her Bachelor of Education. Before becoming a teacher, she worked for 6 years as a summer camp counsellor in a French community and taught visual art and cooking classes. Her blog serves to catalogue tricks and resources she's picked up along her career.
I decided to follow this blog for a few reasons. First of all, she's a Canadian teacher! Hopefully this means there will be some curricular similarities. I know, for example, Winnipeg School Division uses a lot of Ontario English resources for literacy. I also followed her because she is francophone and it can be really difficult to find French resources. A lot of French resources out there are European French. While these work well in a pinch, often vocabulary and spelling will be slightly different. It's just nice to not have to take the time to go back and edit. Also, she teaches grade 7 and 8, which I hope to teach also! The last reason I followed her is that she has lots of resources for brand new teachers. She not only has classroom related posts, but posts on how to maintain mental health as a new teacher and how to avoid teacher burnout.
You can follow her on Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest.
Here are some things I learned from Élise's blog:
- She has a ton of resources that she shares for free!!!
- Her Pinterest is fantastic and has lots of French literacy resources
- If you follow her blog you get access to her Google drive (activities, lessons, parent resources)
- 10 tricks to fit 20 minutes of reading into every day
- French websites for video resources: https://www.idello.org/en
